Fall 2026 Classes
Help your child do hard things - Without being so hard on themselves
Heart To Heart: Resilience Skills for Kids and Parents
A 6-Week Live-Online Class
Next class begins October 29, 2026
We all hope for our children to meet life’s challenges with resilience and inner strength. This 6-week class for parents and children helps kids ages 7-11 develop resilience skills, including self-compassion, to manage those ups and downs.
Self-compassion might sound soft, but it is a powerful tool for supporting a child’s emotion regulation. Studies have shown self-compassion is associated with lower levels of depression and anxiety, improved coping skills, and improvements in emotional well-being for both parents and children.
This fun and playful 6-week, live-online class, created by the brilliant Jamie Lynn Tatera, is an adaptation of the Mindful Self-Compassion training for adults. It incorporates engaging activities and metaphors to help children learn how to recognize their emotions, begin to soothe themselves, and develop a kind and compassionate inner voice that will help them do hard things without being so hard on themselves. And, it provides parents and children an opportunity to forge a deeper connection and practice communicating about feelings.

This class is for any child, ages 7-11, who could benefit from learning skills for recognizing and expressing their own emotions in healthy ways – and their parent(s) or caregiver(s). I have found that it is especially helpful for kids on the sensitive side who might have big feelings and could benefit from extra support in communicating and managing those feelings. I have also found it to be very helpful for creative, energetic kids who might have a history of impulsive behavior, as it helps them to practice pausing to understand their own thoughts and feelings and learn how to regulate before acting on them.

Many parents have shared with me that they are pleasantly surprised by how well their wiggly child was able to sit still and participate during our class meetings. Each class starts with a physical movement activity that helps kids focus and manage restlessness for the rest of the class. In the first class meeting, we talk about how every person learns differently, and I invite each child (and adult!) to do whatever it is they need to do to support their own focus and participation during class – whether that’s having fidgets nearby, coloring or doodling while we talk, turning off their camera so that they can have a movement break, etc…

Each class is one hour long. We begin with a fun mindful movement activity before a short check-in. Each class is filled with mini-lessons and activities meant to help you learn and practice skills for recognizing and dealing with difficult emotions, thoughts, and situations. There are several times in every meeting when participants mute themselves so that each child-parent pair can reflect privately with one another on the things we are learning. We always end class with a fun game.

If you let me know ahead of time, I will record the meeting (with the other participants’ consent) and share the recording for you and your child to watch on your own time.
