Compassionate ADHD Therapy for Kids and Teens in Austin, TX

Helping energetic, creative kids build the skills and confidence they need to manage life’s ups and downs

Does your child struggle to focus? Do you find yourself repeating the same directions, over and over again? Does your child seem to have a never-ending supply of energy? Are morning and evening routines really hard? Do they have outsized emotional reactions to seemingly small issues?

If you are feeling overwhelmed, you are not alone - and neither is your child.

Whether your child has a diagnosis of ADHD, or you find yourself wondering if they might, I’m here to help you help your child.

Parenting a child with ADHD is as demanding as it is rewarding. While ADHD can pose challenges with focus, follow-through, and emotional regulation, it often comes with the amazing gifts of creativity, energy, and passion.

My mission is to help your child develop the skills they need for managing challenges and coping with tough emotions.

Signs Your Child Might Benefit From ADHD Support

Not every child needs therapy just because they have ADHD. If their family, school, or social lives are negatively affected by several of the following issues, though, it’s important to seek help sooner rather than later:

  • Often forgets or misplaces things

  • Big emotional outbursts

  • Difficulty with follow-through or needs lots of reminders

  • Has trouble settling down when upset or excited

  • Frequent fidgeting, interrupting, or difficulty staying seated

  • Frequent negative feedback from school, which may affect self-esteem

  • Falling behind with schoolwork due to trouble staying organized (e.g. not turning in completed assignments)

  • Trouble making or keeping friends because of impulsive behavior

How I Approach Therapy for Kids With ADHD

Therapy for kids with ADHD does not involve sitting still on the couch and talking. It’s an active process - physically and mentally! My job is to find ways to make therapy fun and engaging for kids. To do this, I use play, games, physical activity, and tactile projects to draw your child out while teaching and reinforcing skills they need to handle life’s ups and downs. Each child gets a personalized approach to their sessions which usually involves the following:

  • Play and Movement-Based Activities: Interactive games not only help your child enjoy therapy but help them practice important skills that will help them manage their ADHD-related challenges. For example, practicing turn-taking in a game helps them practice controlling impulses. Play can also help them work through difficult emotions that might arise from the challenges of navigating the world with ADHD.

  • Executive Functioning (EF) Skills: Practical, visual strategies to support your child with EF skills, like following multi-step directions, transitions from one activity to the next, and organizing tasks.

  • Positive Reinforcement: A nurturing environment where you child gets to know their own strengths and develops a positive sense of self.

You Are Part of the Team

The most effective therapy for children with ADHD includes parent education and collaboration. Because of this, parent collaboration is a pillar of my treatment approach. Together, we work to understand your child’s behaviors, learn practical strategies for supporting your child at home, and develop a long-term plan for reducing friction at home and restoring joy and connection.

The Nurtured Heart Approach serves as the basis for parent education in my practice. This is a research-based approach that helps parents manage their child’s difficult behaviors and emotions, reduce fighting and tension in the family, and bring out their child’s innate strengths.
